Good afternoon, it’s Tuesday, February 7, 2011 at Twelve o’clock and you’re listening to 90.3 WKNJ-FM, Union, New Jersey, and I’m Wayne with the news.
In Local News…
A water main break has left Downtown Jersey City residents without water. Around 7 in the morning Seventh Avenue residents began to see their street overcome with water. One resident said, "It was like the Mississippi River. I didn't know if I should get my bathing suit or what." According to United Water about 35 families are without water.
In other local news Jersey City is still continuing their snow removal effort. From 7am until 7pm the cities incinerator and Department of Public Works will continue to remove snow that has made the streets of Jersey City a terror. Residents will be relieved to see there is room for parking and that the sidewalks will be free of snow. Snow removal started last week on Garfield Avenue, Christopher Columbus Drive and Broadway.
In National News…
Dozens of Cheeseheads arrived at Lambeau Field this morning to begin purchasing their Green Bay Packers Super Bowl Championship gear. Brett Elliot took the day off from work to be one of the many Packers fans who bought a piece of championship history. The team also plans to have their Championship parade on Tuesday.
When Savannah, Georgia began to welcome the largest cargo ship to ever dock, and the surprise is, the ship barely fit. The Figaro sailed in weighing at half capacity to avoid touching the rivers bottom, and the ship still could not navigate the shallow waters at high tide. The east coast ports are not deep enough to handle such a huge vessel the ship came in weighing 8,500 pounds and over a thousand feet long. The eastern seaboard has begun a 2.3 dollar project to deepen the canal by 50 feet.
In International News….
A wildfire in Australia has destroyed over 41 houses and blazed through over 4000 acres of land. In Roleystone and Kelmscott 41 houses were burned and 19 were destroyed. Firefighters have tried water-bombing but it hasn’t affected the fire too much. The fire was started by a man who was using a power tool which ignited dry gas.
In sports…
Super Bowl XLV was played last night in Dallas, Texas where it showcased the AFC Conference Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and the NFC Conference Champion Green Bay Packers. The final score has the Packers winning 31-25, and Green Bay Quarterback Aaron Rogers won Super Bowl MVP.
Tonight The Boston Celtics take on the Charlotte Bobcats at 7pm.

Tuesdays forecast shows rain in the morning making way to clear skies in the evening. High of 37.
